What Does HGH Do?
There has been a wealth of information regarding Human Growth Hormone, which is abbreviated as HGH, in the news lately. The HGH which is attracting so much notice is actually synthetic HGH, which is almost identical to the HGH which occurs naturally in our bodies as a result of the pituitary gland. This gland, which is located at the base of the brain, makes the HGH that is critical to normal growth and development in children and to the health of organs and tissues throughout an adult's life.
What is HGH?
Simply put, HGH is a hormone, just like other hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. More specifically, HGH is a protein-based hormone that is secreted by somatroph cells located in the anterior pituitary gland. The HGH which is produced naturally within the pituitary gland is referred to as somatotropin, while the HGH which is synthetically produced using recombinant DNA technology is referred to as somatropin.
What does HGH do?
The role of HGH in the body is complex; in otherwise healthy adult humans, adequate levels of HGH are associated with many functions, including maintaining sufficient energy, promoting the development of lean muscle tissue, and maintaining a healthy libido, to name a few. When HGH levels start to decline through the aging process, most people start to look and feel older.
In children, HGH is required for normal growth and development. Some children have a rare growth-related condition due to a deficient pituitary gland that results in abnormally low levels of HGH; medical specialists prescribe the administration of synthetic HGH for these children so that they can attain more normal patterns of growth.
HGH Benefits
Medical researchers have identified that HGH has a number of benefits when used as directed. Adult patients have noted that HGH is beneficial in a number of factors, including:
- Enhancing energy levels
- Improving memory and cognitive functioning
- Promoting the increase of lean muscle mass
- Helping to reduce excess weight
- Assisting with healthy cardiac and circulatory functioning
- Increasing bone density
- Boosting the immune system
- Reducing levels of blood cholesterol
- Promoting better moods
- Enhancing libido and sexual functioning
- Increasing the likelihood of better sleep and decreasing insomnia
- Promoting better endurance and flexibility
HGH supplements have long been used by competitive athletes, but more recently, HGH is now used by many members of the general public. With the research results from studies involving HGH now in publication, interest in HGH supplements has grown considerably. Once available only by prescription, HGH is now easily obtained through health food stores and from many internet retailers. As more people discover the benefits of HGH, the word continues to spread about the significant and measurable anti-aging effects of this important supplement.
